In January 2004 I obtain two mature pairs
of Gouldian finches, from day one that I received these two pairs of
birds, immediately, I begin to convert them to my methods of feeding. I
provide each pair with a comfortable size of double breeding cages.
Slowly, I also begin to convert the same to a better seed diets and the
proper supplements.
For several days these new residents of
my bird room, unfortunately they only ate, the regular Gouldian seed
mixture that it is composed of all the variety of millet seed plus
canary seed, with the additions of the proper percentage of added
vitamins and minerals, plus protein and amino acid, that cage bird
required to experience a happy, healthy life in captivity. These four
birds, would not touch boiled chickens eggs, or Nestling food, or any
kind of fresh greens; however, slowly but sure I convince them to eat
the right things. I normally and religiously I/we supply as supplements,
to all my birds, with properly soak seed, blended with dry nestling
food. Well I said to my Gouldian Finches, "You do not know what you are
missing until you taste these delicious foods,"
Well one night, just before the light
went out in the bird room, I removed all of the seeds from the
Gouldian's cages. Bright and early the next morning, in an electric
blander, I put a handful of a variety of fresh greens with some good dry
nestling food. I blended this mixture of nestling food and greens with
25% of properly soaked seeds, consistent of variety of millet seeds plus
canary seeds. I mixed the above ingredients well, and put it before the
hungry Gouldians. The first day they ate all of the soaked seeds, plus a
small portion of the greens and nestling foods. To make a long story
short, I followed this method for 6 days. After that, my Ladies devoured
all of the greens that I/we place before them. After several days that
my Ladies have been eating the right foods, they simply look beautiful
and colorful. It was in a month that they have been in my possession;
they began to produce youngsters abundantly. The same method of feeding
over the years, I had to implement with the Carduelian Finches, small
and large hook bills, and even some species of African and Australian
Finches, in order for them to thrive in good health and good
reproductive conditions.
Any species of birds that is taught how
to eat right and continuously, provides them with nutritious foods, and
of course, provides them with a good clean comfortable environment, any
bird fancier can rest assure of achieving success and reproducing any
species of cage bird; providing, also an environment that closely
resembles the bird's original wild habitat, and of course, also by
trying to supply the foods that are closely similar to the ones that the
birds find in their natural habitat; all these considerations, will
contribute to a greater breeding success for many of the species of cage
birds, that we try breed in captivity
For the last couple of years, I have
been adding to 8 ounce cups of properly soaked seeds, 1 teaspoon of
POMEGRANATE juice. I mixed it well, and then I added one 8 ounce cup of
dry, good nestling food. Again I mixed well together and it is fed, in
small amounts at a time, to the feeding parents. Regardless of the
species; been Gouldian Finch, other Australian and African Finches, all
of the Carduelian Finches, and of course, all varieties of Canaries toon
m.
Pomegranate juice is a bit expensive,
but in my opinion, it is worth it, to pay the extra money for the
betterment of the health of all cage birds. Pomegranate juice is
available in all of the super markets, or at least it is available every
where in New Jersey, and Florida as well.
For several years, researchers have
determined that pomegranate juice has higher anti-oxidant activity. It
is very beneficial for humans, and especially for reducing cholesterol,
it hels diabetic in humans. Also help prevent many types of cancer by
boosting the immune system. This juice helps prevent many illnesses in
humanes.
For a few years, my wife and I been
drinking this expensive juice everyday, e specially my wife she thinks
of feeling better? One day I said to myself, why not feed it to the
birds as a supplement. Well, I have been adding this expensive juice to
my nestling food for 3 years now. All of my birds have benefited a great
deal from this juce. As a result all of my birds have been staying
healthy and in very good reproductive conditions.
