Greetings friends and fellow bird fanciers
everywhere. In the last several days this group has not done as well as
in other groups, there has been very little posting done. Why? Perhaps
many of you are busy getting aggravated because of experiencing the
common problems that usually occur in our bird rooms, and as result, you
hated to talk and write about it? Come on friends, sharing our problems
with each other is the best way to learn from each other, and together
we all can easily avoid future mistakes. Yes, we can also learn by our
mistakes!
The breeding season with our birds can
be a lot of fun if we do the right things in our bird room. Remember, it
is very difficult to try to alter nature. Nature must take its course,
and in turn if we allow nature to take its course, great accomplishments
will occur in our bird rooms.
The crazy weather that we have been
experiencing in the North East part of the US during the fall of 2006
and so far as of March 19 2007, I am sure that it as been creating a lot
of problems for the natural habitat of the wild birds and other animals
as well as for our birds in captivity. Crazy and unstable weather
conditions have been lamented by many of my friends in Italy, as well as
in some other parts of the world. I wonder, in other zones of North
America, what kind of weather patterns have you been experiencing? It
will be nice if some one would post about it.
On March 14, the temperature in my area
of New Jersey was almost 80 degrees F. Everything looked great in my
bird room and for the birds outdoor. All birds were singing their hearts
out in the outdoors; the poor critters thought that the spring suddenly
had arrived? All wild birds were noticeably searching for food for their
survival. Unfortunately, in the next few days, after March 14, the
temperature dove to the freezing point, several inches of snow covered
the ground everywhere in the North East and, I assume, made life
miserable for all the wild birds outdoor. I wonder how many of them lost
their life for starvation or for lack of water?
When the weather is beautiful outside
and the temperature is mild, a sense of gratitude and appreciation is
noticeable among all birds in our bird rooms, or at least it seems to be
the case in my huge bird room in New Jersey. The temperature in the room
is set to a comfortable 70 degrees F. The artificial light automatically
will kick on during the dark gloomy days. Even with these ideal
conditions, all birds are much happier on pleasant, warm, sunny days.
Spring-like climate is the preferred time of the year for humans and the
birds as well.
My people in New Jersey told me, even
though the temperature has risen in the last couple days to 40 degrees
F, the ground is still covered with snow in most places and the ground
is still hard and frozen. Poor wild birds! I hope that the impact of
this crazy and unpredictable weather pattern will not jeopardize the
bird's outdoor breeding activity again this year. Also the birds in our
bird rooms may experience poor breeding results for some of us? I hope
not!
My right hand helper Rosa also told me
that none of my Canaries have yet to show any real signs that they are
ready to start to reproduce themselves. Well, we have a lot of patience;
we let nature take its course. Since we have increased the artificial
light to go on at 7:30 AM and completely off at 8:45 PM, my Gouldian
finches have been performing much better in producing a lot of
youngsters. The mortality of the youngster has completely stopped. The
entire large nests of youngsters in each nest box survived the shorter
night beautifully. All youngsters are growing faster and in optimal
health conditions.
My Green Singer Finches, with the
increased artificial light situation, are beginning to be in better
breeding conditions. I am looking forward to finding many healthy Green
Singer youngsters when I go back to New Jersey, which I hope is soon.
I am trying to do all the postings that
I can while I am still at home in the next several days because I will
again be subsidizing hospitals and doctor's livelihoods. I trust that
many of you, my friends, will keep all groups active and educational,
and I thank each and every one of you.
For quite some time now I have been
dealing with some mental case individuals that have been creating
annoying problems for all my groups. I've been trying to keep the groups
clean, but in the process, I have been wasting a lot of my limited time
that I have available. I have been noting a Weasel, which goes in out of
the groups, giving me a dizzy spell. From now on, no one will be
admitted and be able to be part of the Abba's peaceful groups, unless
the profile is completely filled out with information that can be easily
verified. My profile is complete and available to anyone to see, all my
phone numbers are listed in the phone books in every city that I have a
house. I have nothing to hide. I definitely don't want any individual
troublemakers that hide behind the keyboard like stinging ROACHES that
surface only at night. I have a very powerful spray to eliminate these
terrible and disgusting critters.
Please, and I ask please, when you post,
please, sign your name just like I do, your postings with this style
will looks more professional and it will let the fellow group members
address you directly!
