ברכות מהאי מרקו הקריר,
פלורידה, היכן שאני שוהה מאז הראשון לנובמבר 2006. הייתה פעילות לחוצה
מרובה, סבסוד אורח החיים של הרופא, טיפול במאות מכתבי דואר אלקטרוני,
ניסיון לעשות עבודה נוספת בחצר, ונסיעה לרג'יו אמיליה באיטליה, ולכן נישאר
לי מעט מאוד זמן לשלוח מידע לימודי בכל הקבוצות שאני משתתף בהן בהנעה רבה
מזה שנים רבות.

ייתן לי לעשות היום? אני בטוח שרבים מכם ירצו לקרוא על התערוכה הבינלאומית?
תערוכת ענק שנערכה ב-CITTA DEL TRICOLERE באזור
Reggio di Emilia שבאיטליה. התערוכה, בעיר נהדרת
זו, בעבר, ובמשך עשורים, הייתה אירוע בינלאומי שמגדלים/מציגים מחלקים רבים
של אירופה ומשאר העולם שאפו להגיע אליו והשתתפו מדי שנה. למעשה, כמעט כולם
ציפו לאירוע על מנת להשתתף. אבל, עקב הבהלה משפעת העופות בשנת 2005, רק
ציפורים איטלקיות, שרובו וטובע על ידי המציג, הורשו להשתתף. למרות זאת,
בתערוכה של 2006 נכחו כ-18,000 ציפורים בתחרויות שונות. הציפורים נשפטו על
ידי כמה עשרות שופטים בינלאומיים איטלקים ואחרים שהוסמכו על ידי ה-OMJ
(כ-50 שופטים?)
נאמר לי כי מעל 60,000
ציפורים הובאו למכירה בשנני אולמות גדולים נוספים. אפילו הציפורים שנמצאות
למכירה צריכות לשלם סכום כניסה נדיב לאירוע. זוהי תערוכה יקרה מאוד
ואיכותית, זה המעט שניתן לומר. הציפורים אשר הוכנסו לתחרות הוצבו באולם
תצוגה גדול מאוד וניפרד.
בשבת, ה-25 לנובמבר, ויום
ראשון ה-26, עשרות אלפי מבקרים מכל רחבי אירופה ושאר העולם מילאו את שלושת
אולמות התצוגה הענקיים. לעיתים, הקהל היה כה סמיך, שהיה כמעט בלתי אפשרי
לחצות את האולם. למרות שלטי ה"אסור לעשן" שהוצבו בכל מקום, המעשנים עשו את
הנשימה לקשה מאוד עבור חלקנו. ימים מספר אחרי ששבתי למרקו, הריאות שלי
עדיין היו מלאות בניקוטין רעיל. אני מאמין שעישון פסיבי מזיק מאוד ואולי
אפילו יותר מהעישון עצמו.
מתי נוכל אנחנו, במדינה
גדולה זו של ארה"ב, לעשות תערוכה כמו זו שבאיטליה ובחלקים אחרים בעולם?
לדעתי, לעולם לא! רבים מהמגדלים האמריקאים אינם מאוחדים ברוח
ספורטיבית טובה, לחלק אין כל כבוד או הערכה למגדלים עמיתים וחלק אינם
יכולים לעקוב אחר החוקים והתקנות של מועדוני הציפורים. רבים מהאירועים אשר
היו תערוכות ציפורים הומרו בימים אלה , לשוק פשפשים של ציפורים. רוב
המגדלים מתרכזים במכירת הציפורים שלהם, במקום להתרכז בהצגתן.
התערוכה ברג'יו אמיליה
נמשכה עד שבת, ה-26 ב-7 בערב (שימו לב, לא היה שחרור מוקדם לזוכים, כמו גם
למפסידים הרבים). החוקים והתקנות מומשו כלשונם. הכנסת הציפורים והשיפוט
החלו ב-21, 22 ו-23 לנובמבר. טקס הפתיחה הרשמי ופתיחת התערוכה לציבור הרחב
התבצעה ביום שישי ה-24. ואז, בשעה 4 אחה"צ בדיוק, כולם הצטוו לצאת החוצה,
כך שראש העיר של רג'יו אמיליה, יחד עם דמויות ציבוריות אחרות יוכלו לחתוך
את סרט הכניסה הרשמי. רק אז, לאחר כל הטקס הרשמי, התערוכה נפתחה לכולם. זרם
של מאות אנשים עקב אחרי המוזמנים וביקר בשלושת אולמות הענק. עשרות
עיתונאים, ובכללם אני, עם מצלמה דיגיטאלית קטנה מאוד, ירו בפלאשים - למעשה
זה דמה לסערת ברקים בפלורידה. אני אשתדל לחלוק חלק מהתמונות עימכם. כל

Greeting from cool Marco Island, Florida, where, I have
been since the
first day of November 2006. There has been a lot of stressful activity,
subsidizing the Doctor's livelihood, dealing with the back log of
hundreds of e-mails, trying to do the excess yard work, plus my trip to
Reggio Emilia, Italy, I have had very little time to do any serious
educational postings in all of the Groups that I have been participating
in with great pleasure for many years.
Let me see what my brain will let me do today? I am sure that many of
you would like to read about the International? MEGA Cage Bird
Exhibition held in CITTA DEL TRICOLERE, Reggio di Emilia, Italy. The
exhibition, in this great city, in the past, and for decades, has been
an internationals event, where fancier/exhibitors from many parts of
Europe and other parts of the world eagerly attended and participated
every year. In fact, mostly everyone used to look forward to
participating. But, because of the avian flue scare last year in 2005,
only Italian birds, bred and banded by the exhibitors were allowed to
participate. Nevertheless, in the 2006 in the Reggio Emilia exhibition,
18,000 Italians bred birds were placed in various competitions. The
entries were judged by a few dozen Italian and other OMJ certified
international judges. (Maybe 50 judges?)
I was told that 60,000 plus birds were entered for sale in two extra
large exhibition halls. Even the birds that are for sale are required to
pay a generous entry fee in this event. It is a very expensive and high
class exhibition, to say the least. The birds that were placed in
competition were located in a very large and separate exhibition hall.
On Saturday, November 25, and Sunday, November 26, tens of thousands of
visitors from many parts of Europe and other parts of the world crowded
the three huge halls. At times, the crowed was so thick, it was almost
impossible to cross the halls. Despite the NO SMOKING signs that were
posted everywhere, smokers made breathing for some of us a very
difficult ordeal. Several days after I came back home to Marco, I still
had my lungs full of poisonous nicotine. I believe second hand smoke is
also very bad or even worse then the smoking itself.
When will we, in this great country of the USA, be able to do an
exhibition like the one held in Italy and other parts of the world? In
my opinion, NEVER! Many of the North Americans fanciers are not united
in good sportsmanship, some have no respect or appreciations of other
fellow fanciers and some can not follow the rules and regulations of the
bird clubs. Most of what used to be cage bird exhibitions have been
converted, these days, to bird flea markets. Most breeders are
concentrating on the sale of their birds, other than concentrating on
exhibiting them.
The Reggio Emilia, Italian Exhibition lasted until Sunday, November
26th, until 7 pm. (Note – there was no early check out for the
winners nor for the many losers). Rules and regulations were implemented
to the letter. The entering of the birds and the judging began on
November 21-22-and 23-. The official inauguration and the opening of
the exhibitions to the public took place on Friday, November 24th. Then,
exactly at 4pm, everyone was ordered out of the exhibition halls so the
Mayer of Reggio Emilia, along with many other prominent authority
figures could cut the official entry ribbon. Only then, after the
official ceremony, the exhibition was officially opened to all. An
entourage of several hundred people followed the invited authorities and
visited the entire three huge halls. Dozens of photographs, including
yours truly, with my very small digital camera, flashed away –
actually it resembled a Florida lightening storm. I will try to share

Throughout the entire huge halls were located hundreds of venders, every
thing that bird fancier need, was available for sale, every were in the
thee exhibition halls.
