שלום לכולכם חברים ורעים לתחביב. במהלך הימים
האחרונים עבדתי ללא הפסקה בחדר הגידול. החלטתי להפריד 95% מהזוגות שלי.
הטמפרטורות הגיעו לאזור ה-40oC למשך כמה שעות מדי יום, ובצירוף עם הלחות
הגבוהה, היה מאוד לא נעים למגדלים ולציפורים. אני לא זוכר לחות וטמפרטורות
כאלו בתקופה זו של השנה (למעשה, לפי החדשות הטמפרטורות באזור של אבבטה הן
שיא מאז שנת38 - תומר ג.) גם שדות הירקות שלי סובלים. חם מדי ויבש
מדי ללא גשם מזה מספר ימים. לפני כן היה גשום מדי. עשבי הבר למעשה התייבשו
בכל המקומות, אבל הבוקר הצלחתי לאסוף מתוך שדה ענק כמות מכובדת של עולש
בשלב הבשלת הזרעים. גולדיאנים, קרדוליאנים וקנרים זוללים שפע טבעי זה. אני
נוסע לחודש ורק אלוהים יודע מתי הציפורים שלי ייהנו מעשבי ודשאי בר טבעיים.
בעוד מספר שעות אעלה למטוס בדרכי ליעד. אני
מקווה שהנסיעה שלי תקל על חלק מהמערבולות שעברו עלי בשנים האחרונות.
אני מעודד את כולם להמשיך ולתרום ככל יכולתם. בואו ונשמור על תהליך הלימוד
חי.
רוב הציפורים שלי, החל מהיום, נמצאות בכלובים
מודולאריים מאורכים. יש להן שפע מקום לעוף, והנוצות עפות סביב. הנחתי את
העוזרים שלי לספק אמבטיות לעיתים קרובות ככל האפשר, כל הציפורים יעריכו זאת
אפילו מדי יום. הנחיתי גם את העוזרים להמעיט בפעילות מיותרת בחדר הגידול,
לתת מים טריים לשתייה ומקלחות ולצאת מהר ככל האפשר. במהלך הנשירה על
הציפורים לקבל שקט ושלווה.
עקב טעויות יצעו לי מספר בני כלאיים (mules)
השנה. שמתי את כולם הרחק מחדר הקנרים. יחד עם חוחיות אירופאיות, פרושים
ובאותה סביבה שמתי גם ארבעה זכרי טימברדו צעירים. אני סקרן לגבי סוג השירה
שהטימברדו יפתחו.
הנחתי את העוזרים שלי לרסס את חדר הגידול מדי
10 ימים, תוך הקפדה על חריצים ופינות, וריסוס הציפורים ברסס עדין ממרחק של
כ-1 מטר.
מי רחצה עם חומץ תפוחים יסייעו לציפורים
במיוחד בזמן הנשירה. כפית אחת עד שתיים ל-5 ליטר מים יעשו פלאים. חומץ
תפוחים מכיל חומרי מזון רבים לא רק לציפורים, אלא גם לבני אדם. אשתי ואני
שמים כף חומץ תפוחים לכוס מים כל יום מדי יום כל השנה, לא רק בזמן הנשירה
שלנו? חחחחחח

Hello to all of you my friends and fellow
fanciers. In the last couple of days I have been working non-stop in my
bird room. I decided to separate 95% of my breeding pairs. The
temperature here in The Garden State has reached triple digits at some
times during each day, coupled with the high humidity, it is very
uncomfortable for the humans as well as the birds. I never remember it
being this hot and humid at this time of the year. My vegetable fields
are suffering also. It is too hot and too dry, no rain for several days
now. Previously it was raining too darn much causing the slow growing of
plants and vegetables. Wild greens are practically dried out everywhere,
but this morning I managed to pick out of the huge fields a considerable
amount of Chicory weeds in the seeding stage. Gouldians, Carduelans, and
Canaries devour this nature bounty with gusto. I will be away for about
a month and only God knows when my birds will again receive this natural
wild seeding grasses and weeds.
In a couple hours I will be boarding a
flight to a destination. I hope that my trip will alleviate some of my
terrible turbulence that I have been going through for the last couple
of years. I urge everyone to contribute postings as much as possible.
Please let's keep the learning process alive.
Most of my birds, as of today, are
housed in long modular cages. They have plenty of room to fly across,
feathers flying everywhere. I instructed my helpers to supply baths as
often as they can, all birds will appreciate it even everyday. I also
instructed my helpers to minimize excessive activity in the bird room,
supply fresh water for drinking and bathing quickly and get the heck out
of the room. During the molt birds must receive peace and quiet.
I produced several accidental Mules this
breeding season. I placed all these Mules away from the Canary room.
Together with European Goldfinches, Chaffinches, and Linnets in the same
environment I placed four Timbrados male(?) youngsters. My curiosity is
what kind of song the Timbrados will develop.
I also instructed my helpers to spray
the bird room with a good Pyrethrum/Petroleum at least every ten days
concentrating the spray in crevices and cracks and from the distance of
36-48 inches mist directly on the birds.
Apple cider vinegar in bathing water
will be very beneficial to the birds especially during the molt, one or
two tablespoons to a gallon of bathing water will do wonder for any
bird. Apple cider vinegar provides many valuable nutrients, not only to
the birds but to humans too. My wife and I put one tablespoon of apple
cider vinegar to an 8 oz. glass of drinking water and we do this every
day all year round, not only when we are molting? LOL
